In a short blurb? We talk books.
Since I love young adult books, it is my duty to inform you that its time to grab a book and join me for Teen Read Week! The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has voted and the top ten list can be found here. I’ve read a couple on the list and have piled onto my to-read list with some more titles. (Where will I ever find the time to get to relax with all these great books?!)
Anyway, the YA book that I chose for this week is…
… Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl. This has been sitting on my bookshelf for quite some time but with the third book of the series, Beautiful Chaos, coming out TODAY. I figured that it was time to get a move on.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
I’m currently on page 255 out of 626. My thoughts so far include: Wow, I was not expecting a male narrator. Interesting… I wonder what her story is. Does she sparkle in the sun? Oh, I guess not. Love all the literary references in here. A Boo Radley? Cool! Flashbacks… a locket… What does this all mean?
I’m intrigued. And you should be too! Before I leave you all today, I just wanted to comment on how much I love these covers. Gorgeous typography!
